Festival Spectaculare: Modeselektor live + Philipp Johann Thimm
**Hard. Physical. Uncompromising. Berlin duo Modeselektor will open the 14th edition of Spectaculare Festival at Roxy on 3 March. Gernot Bronsert and Sebastian Szary are bringing a live show built on massive bass, fractured beats and the radical blending of genres that has defined them from the very beginning. The sound will be matched by an uncompromising visual show, where projections and lighting are not merely a backdrop but amplify the intensity of the entire experience. They arrive in Prague just weeks after the release of their new album *MDSLKTR* – a record on which they strip away excess layers, return to their foundations and once again search for the raw core of the Modeselektor sound.** The path to *MDSLKTR* began while working on *Classics Vol. 01*, when Modeselektor took apart material from their landmark albums *Hello Mom!* and *Happy Birthday!* and started digging through nearly three decades of studio sessions, fragments and unfinished ideas. But they do not treat the past as a safe space for nostalgia – they see it as material for further destruction. The result is twelve new tracks built on reduction, pressure and clear structure: fewer layers, fewer ornaments, more direct impact. *MDSLKTR* returns to the era when their sound was emerging from Berlin rave, techno, electro, hip-hop, IDM and bass music, while refusing to respect the boundaries of any of them. It was precisely this refusal to submit to a single sound that took Modeselektor from the illegal parties of post-Wall Berlin to some of the world's biggest festival stages (*Sónar, Melt, Primavera*). Their journey has been marked by collaborations with Thom Yorke, Tommy Cash and Apparat, with whom Bronsert and Szary formed Moderat, as well as their own label, Monkeytown Records. Their live acts are known for genre-defying chaos and massive energy. Even after nearly thirty years, *MDSLKTR* does not feel like a look back. They are not returning to their roots out of nostalgia. They are returning to dismantle them once again. At Roxy, this principle will become pure physical force – sound, visuals, light and three decades of restlessness compressed into a single live show. The evening will be opened by Berlin-based multi-instrumentalist Philipp Johann Thimm, a long-time collaborator of Apparat and a distinctive voice in contemporary experimental electronic music.
**Tvrdě. Fyzicky. Bez kompromisů. Berlínští Modeselektor otevřou 3. března v Roxy čtrnáctý ročník festivalu *Spectaculare*. Gernot Bronsert a Sebastian Szary přivezou live show postavenou na masivním basu, rozlámaných beatech a radikálním míchání žánrů, které je provází od samotných začátků. Zvuk doplní vizuální show, v níž projekce a světlo nejsou kulisou, ale násobí intenzitu celého zážitku. Do Prahy dorazí jen několik týdnů po vydání nového alba *MDSLKTR* – desky, na níž odhazují přebytečné vrstvy, vracejí se k vlastnímu základu a znovu hledají syrové jádro soundu Modeselektor.** Cesta k *MDSLKTR* začala při práci na *Classics Vol. 01*, kdy Modeselektor rozebrali materiál ze zásadních alb *Hello Mom!* a *Happy Birthday!* a začali se znovu probírat téměř třemi dekádami vlastních studiových sessions, fragmentů a nedokončených nápadů. Minulost ale nepoužívají jako bezpečný prostor pro nostalgii – berou ji jako materiál k další destrukci. Výsledkem je dvanáct nových skladeb postavených na redukci, tlaku a jasné struktuře: méně vrstev, méně ornamentů, víc přímého zásahu. *MDSLKTR* se vrací k době, kdy se jejich zvuk rodil z berlínského raveu, techna, electra, hip hopu, IDM a bass music, ale odmítal respektovat hranice kteréhokoliv z nich. Právě tahle neochota podřídit se jednomu zvuku dostala Modeselektor z ilegálních parties post-wall Berlína na největší světové stage (*Sónar, Melt, Primavera*). Jejich cestu lemují spolupráce s Thomem Yorkem, Tommy Cashem nebo Apparatem, s nímž Bronsert a Szary vytvořili Moderat, stejně jako vlastní label Monkeytown Records. Jejich live acty jsou známé žánrovým chaosem a masivní energií. Ani po téměř třiceti letech proto *MDSLKTR* nepůsobí jako ohlížení zpět. Ke kořenům se nevracejí kvůli nostalgii. Vrací se, aby je znovu rozebrali. V Roxy se tenhle princip promění v čistou fyzickou sílu – zvuk, obraz, světlo a tři dekády neklidu stlačené do jedné live show. Večer rozehraje berlínský multiinstrumentalista Philipp Johann Thimm, dlouholetý spolupracovník Apparata a výrazný hlas současné experimentální elektroniky.
