Komu je Národní galerie otevřená?

Thu, 3 Dec 2026, 18:30 – 23:59 · Trade Fair Palace

The third debate will focus on the National Gallery’s relationship with its current and potential audiences. Attention will be paid to who visits the gallery, whom it succeeds in reaching, and which groups are under-represented amongst its visitors. The discussion will also cover the social and institutional barriers that may affect access to the gallery. Another topic will be the way in which cultural institutions communicate with the public and respond to the changing expectations and needs of visitors. In this context, the debate will also touch upon the evolving roles of art institutions and new forms of participation, engagement and audience development. The discussion will focus on language, modes of communication and the nature of exhibition, educational and public programmes, as well as the extent to which they take into account the diversity of the audience. In this context, it will also address the changing roles of art institutions and forms of participation, curation and audience engagement. The openness of an institution is also linked to who is involved in shaping its form and what opportunities visitors and other sections of the public have to engage with its operations. In a broader context, the discussion will also address issues of trust, representation and the social relevance of national cultural institutions. *The discussion will be moderated by Matěj Skalický.* **Panelists:** - **Oldřich Bystřický** – Head of the Audience Development Department at the National Gallery in Prague - **Tomáš Klička** – art historian, cultural journalist and editor-in-chief of *Art Antiques* magazine - **Magdalena Müllerová** – Director of the Institute of Art, National Institute for Culture - **Michal Stehlík** – historian and Director of the Memorial to National Literature ***What sort of National Gallery do we need?*** *A series of three round-table discussions will open a debate on the role of the National Gallery in Prague as a public cultural institution. The discussion will draw on a range of expert and professional perspectives. The aim of the series is to create a space for critical reflection on the functioning of the National Gallery, its public roles and the conditions that influence its future direction.*
