Jak instituce prostřednictvím sbírek a výstav spoluutváří dějiny umění?
The second debate will focus on how exhibition institutions help shape the history of art through their collections, exhibitions and methods of interpretation. It will explore questions concerning the emergence of narratives about old, modern and contemporary art, the formation of the artistic canon, and the role of the institutions themselves and various actors in these processes. Attention will also be paid to historically formed collections and their contemporary interpretation. The changing social and academic context brings new ways of presenting them and leads to a re-examination of established interpretations whilst preserving historical contexts. The discussion will also address the imbalances and omissions that have found their way into the composition of collections in the past – whether as a result of broader societal attitudes, institutional decisions or individual choices – and the possibilities for reflecting on these in exhibition practice. *The discussion will be moderated by Andrea Průchová Hrůzová.* **Panelists:** - **Michal Novotný** – Director of the NGP’s Post-1945 Art Collection - **Terezie Nekvindová** – art historian, Institute of Art History, Faculty of Arts, Charles University / Research Centre at the Academy of Fine Arts - **Denisa Tomková** – contemporary art theorist and curator, Department of Art Theory and Practice, Faculty of Humanities, Charles University - **Jiří Žák** – visual artist ***What sort of National Gallery do we need?*** *A series of three round-table discussions will open a debate on the role of the National Gallery in Prague as a public cultural institution. It will focus on its position in a democratic society, on the ways in which exhibition practice and collection management help shape the history of art, and on the institution’s relationship with its current and potential audiences. The discussion will draw on a range of expert and professional perspectives. The aim of the series is to create a space for critical reflection on the functioning of the National Gallery, its public roles and the conditions that influence its future direction.*
Druhá debata se zaměří na to, jak výstavní instituce prostřednictvím sbírek, výstav a způsobů interpretace spoluutvářejí dějiny umění. Otevře otázky vzniku narativů o starém, moderním a současném umění, utváření uměleckého kánonu i role samotných institucí a různých aktérů v těchto procesech. *Diskuzi moderuje Andrea Průchová Hrůzová.* **Hostky a hosté diskuze:** - **Michal Novotný** – ředitel Sbírky umění po roce 1945 NGP - **Terezie Nekvindová** – historička umění, Ústav pro dějiny umění FF UK / Vědecko-výzkumné pracoviště AVU - **Denisa Tomková** – teoretička současného umění a kurátorka, Katedra teorie umění a tvorby FHS UK - **Jiří Žák** – vizuální umělec ***Jakou Národní galerii potřebujeme?*** *Cyklus tří kulatých stolů otevře debatu o roli Národní galerie Praha jako veřejné kulturní instituce. Zaměří se na její postavení v demokratické společnosti, na způsoby, jimiž výstavní praxe a práce se sbírkami spoluutvářejí dějiny umění, i na vztah instituce k současnému a potenciálnímu publiku. Do diskuse vstoupí různé odborné a profesní perspektivy. Cílem cyklu je vytvořit prostor pro kritickou reflexi fungování Národní galerie, jejích veřejných rolí a podmínek, které ovlivňují její další směřování.*
